The historic centre of Porto Maurizio rises high on a characteristic promontory overlooking Imperia and the sea.

Park your car in Piazza del Duomo (you can also arrive with the tourist minibus that leaves from Borgo Marina) and visit the 'Basilica di San Maurizio e Compagni Martiri', the largest church in Liguria, in neoclassical style, built at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries.

Take the ascent following the 'Gira Parasio' route indicated by the signs scattered around the streets of the medieval village (the guide is also available online: click here to view).

The district is almost entirely pedestrianised, you will feel as if you are losing yourself in the tangle of carùggi, the alleys that weave the main street. At every corner you will find something to admire: churches, historical buildings, inimitable views of the sea and the valley. By the way, you cannot miss the Logge di Santa Chiara: the walk along the portico, between those arches, with a breathtaking sea view is truly priceless.
Make sure you are there at sunset time for great photos in a truly romantic setting.
